Happy Friday,
everyone. I hope you're having a great day.
Here in my little
corner of the world, the sun is shining big and bright; the sky is a fantastic
blue and the temperature is around 62° this afternoon. Very nice. Tonight it's going to be another chilly
night, down to 43°.
I was
shocked when I saw this old photo a friend had sent me in an email.
The
caption read: "How could parents
ensure that their children were getting sunlight
and fresh air when living in apartment buildings? The baby
cage, ca. 1937"
Can't
you just hear the outcries if someone would do this today? It reminded me of
all the news reports and the criticism from people when the photo of Michael
Jackson became public of him holding his son out of the window for his fans to
see.
What has
changed?
I'm sure
this child's parents loved him and didn't want to see any harm come to him.
They wanted him to grow up healthy and strong. Consequently, they had this
"cage" installed just for him.
Have we
become wiser to the dangers? Or is it that we've seen so much tragedy and abuse
to children that scenes like this make us shout "NO"?
Until
later…..

Or have we become so callous, that nothing surprises us any more? Have a good weekend.
ReplyDeletePeople do this for cats and dogs these days....Not much different from an enclosed balcony! If the window was closed and there was no adult supervision, it could be a problem, but this does not scream abuse, to me.
