A few days ago I posted, regarding the challenge to do the favorite childhood memories, that I wasn't going to do it because all my old photos were in albums and scrapbooks. Then a friend said she took pictures of her pictures. Oh, well... why didn't I think of that. So that's what I did. I love my new iPhone, it did a good job. You'll have to remember some of these photos are 60 years old and taken with my mother's little Brownie box camera.
So here we go.... my walk down memory lane:
1) I don't have the common "naked on the blanket" but how about a bath in the wash tub with your cousin?
2) In second grade we put on the school Easter program. I loved those bunny ears. I remember my mother working on the sewing machine for hours, making mine but several others for friends. I'm in the second row on the far left.
3) All through my younger years I had a great-grandmother I was very close to. She was a strong lady and taught me so much. She died when I was 17, but I cherish all the memories I have of her. This picture is Grandma with all us kids: my brother, sister and me on the right.... my cousins on the left.
4) My mother loved music. Back in 1954, we didn't sit around the house watching television. We had Mom's records. So that year, Dad bought her a new phonograph. I can remember her face when they carried it into the house. She loved it. Every day she'd put on some of her records and we'd listen to Guy Lombardo, Glenn Miller, the big bands, etc. Mom would go about her housework and she'd whistle along with the music.
5) I always loved Easter Sunday, but this year was special. The weather hadn't been very nice that year (see the fog in the background), so along with my new dress, bonnet and purse, Mom bought me a new coat. We all then piled into Mom's car and headed off to church, and later to Gr-Grandma's for a big dinner with all the family. There must have been 50 people in her house on holidays. We had some good times.

6) Another of my favorite memories is my great-aunt Margie. She and my uncle owned a restaurant for many years and she was a great cook. My uncle died when I was little so I have very few memories of him. But 15 years later, Aunt Margie married Lee. He wasn't very good in the kitchen, but he loved to help her. I remember one holiday we were over to their house for dinner. She was making a huge pot of mashed potatoes and Lee wanted to help with the mixer. He had potatoes flying all over the kitchen. Instead of getting upset, he and Margie laughed so hard they couldn't move. They were such fun.

7) Several summers we spent at the lake, Long Lake, MI. I loved it there. My father had a boat and was an avid fisherman. I have several good memories of those days, but what sticks out is all the mornings my sister (in the photo) and I took scraps left from breakfast, the pancakes, and stood on the end of the dock and threw pieces to the fish. And then the day my cousin Gary talked me into going down the channel, turtle hunting with him. He was a year older than me, the boat was a big rowboat, and we got hung up. I thought we'd never get out of there. Plus some of his turtles in the bottom of the boat were 'snapping turtles' and I was barefoot. We still laugh about that day.

8) I spent a few years in the Camp Fire Girls. One summer we went to Columbus, OH, to a 2-day convention. We stayed over-night in a big hotel downtown, my first experience. We had so much fun. It's sad to say that some of these girlfriends are gone now. My bff, Nancy (front row right), died not too long ago. I'm in the front row, 3rd from the right.
9) My puppies! I can't go down Memory Lane without mentioning my puppies. I had the poodle for a few weeks when my father came home with this German Shepherd under his coat. We called him Blu. He was so much fun, ornery, got into everything but Peppe took to him right away. Those 2 would keep things interesting. I loved those dogs.
10) And for my last, my Jr. Prom. This picture isn't very good but I had to share it. The dress, my hair style and his long side-burns. We had a great time. I was dating Bob at the time. I was 16 and he was 17. That's how long we've been together!
When I got started going through my old pictures, I found each one held a special memory. That's why we keep them. The hardest part was picking out just 10. I hope you enjoyed them.
