A Quiet Wednesday...

Nothing much to write about tonight. It's been a quiet day. The weather was beautiful, again. It got up to 83° with lots of sunshine.

I took care of a couple chores this morning, then came back into my office to work some more on my current project. I finished transferring our last VHS tape onto DVD. It was a collection of video clips of our #4 grandson who is now 10 yrs. old. I'm getting some really nice disk copies. I'm glad I'm doing this because some of these old tapes were sticky and wouldn't move on the reels. We had to gently get them to move free before I could put them in the VCR to play without breaking. I held my breathe on a few of them. But now those memories are not lost; they're still available to see.

Next, I hooked up our DVD player to the little recorder and I'm making a copy of the disk to give to our daughter. This is working out great and I'm having such a good time.

I'm a 'tech freak'. I love electronic gadgets. My family just laughs at me. When I told my youngest on the phone last week that I "got a new toy" she just asked.... "what kind of electronic did you get this time?"

Cleaning Monday

Today's top priority was cleaning. I've finished the laundry, mopped the kitchen and bath, so now I get a break until it's time to head back to the kitchen to fix supper.

My project the last couple weeks has been converting all of our old VHS tapes onto DVD disks. I got the neatest gadget to do this. It's a Sony DVDirect. It's made the task so easy and quick.

I just previewed a tape from 1989 of our twin daughter's graduation from high school plus another one of their 22nd birthday in 1992 with our grand-daughter when she was an infant. It's so much fun to see these young faces again. Bob managed to get the tapes loose so they would run through the VCR. I'm transferring one of them to disk right now. That's why we invested in the DVDirect so we could save all of the many tapes we have before they're ruined by old age. Needless to say, I have been reminiscing a lot but it's been so much fun.

I still haven't heard anything from Multiply about them keeping the site alive. I heard some friends got a message from them about it. I hope, in a way, that they do keep it going, but will there be any support? They had said earlier that they would not support the site any longer. I'm learning my way around this site a bit more each day, so I don't know what's going to happen. We'll see.

For those of you who don't know me.... I'm a "government watcher". Even more so since the 2008 Presidential election. I'm registered as a Republican but I never considered myself a staunch Republican. I vote for the person, not the party. But since 2008, all has changed. I've watched this person in our White House get away with lies and plans to destroy our great country. And I get so riled up when something new surfaces. Some days I have to deliberately stay away from the news (which is all biased in his favor anyways) so my emotions can get a rest. This is just a forewarning that like my blog title says... some days could be my rants and ramblings. I never felt comfortable on my other blog site to voice my opinions about our government.

Well, I better get to the kitchen and peel the potatoes. We're having ham, scalloped potatoes and green veggies. Care to join us? I always make plenty.

A beautiful Saturday..

We are having another beautiful day. The sun is shining... the sky is such a wonderful shade of blue... the birds are singing... and we're finally able to have the windows open to smell the fresh air, which right now has that distinct odor of freshly cut grass. I can hear mowers from all directions in our neighborhood. I love it. Hubby mowed our yard yesterday while I cleaned house. I should have been out enjoying the weather and working on my flower beds, but priorities, you know. The carpets needed vacuumed desperately.

I'm thinking we may already be seeing the coming of autumn. Daytime temps in the 70's with the lows in the 40's and 50's at night. This is just the middle of August when we should be our hottest. Just a few short days ago we saw triple digits and now this sudden cool down. I'm not complaining tho'. We could get hot again before fall gets here. We'll see.

My plan for today: going out to WalMart. Yippeee! I hate going out there, but when it's the only place to shop in town, I have no choice, especially when I need bread, milk, potatoes and toilet paper. :)

Why MItt Romney is Un-likable

I received this from a friend in an email but I wanted to share it with all my contacts on here. Please remember this when it's time to vote in Nov.

A lot is being said in the media about Mitt Romney not being "likable" or that he doesn't "relate well" to people. Frankly, we struggled to understand why. So after much research, we have come up with a Top Ten List to explain this "un-likability ."

Top Ten Reasons To Dislike Mitt Romney:

1. He's drop-dead, collar-ad handsome with gracious, statesmanlike aura. Looks like every central casting's #1 choice for Commander-in-Chief.

2. He's been married to ONE woman his entire life, and has been faithful to her, including through her bouts with breast cancer and MS.

3. He has no scandals or skeletons in his closet. (How boring is that?)

4. He can't speak in a fake, southern, "black preacher voice" when necessary.

5. He's highly intelligent. Graduated cum laude from both Harvard Law School and Harvard Business School...and by the way, his academic records are NOT sealed.

6. He doesn't smoke or drink alcohol, and has never done drugs, not even in the counter-culture age when he went to college. Too square for today's America?

7. He represents an America of "yesterday", where people believed in God, went to Church, didn't screw around, worked hard, and became a SUCCESS!

8. He has a family of five great sons.... and none of them have police records or are in drug rehab. But of course, they were raised by a stay-at-home mom, and that "choice" deserves America 's scorn.

9. Oh yes..... he's a MORMON. We need to be very afraid of that very strange religion that teaches its members to be clean-living, patriotic, fiscally conservative, charitable, self-reliant, and honest.

10. And one more point..... pundits say because of his wealth, he can't relate to ordinary Americans. I guess that's because he made that money HIMSELF..... as opposed to marrying it or inheriting it from Dad. Apparently, he didn't understand that actually working at a job and earning your own money made you unrelatable to Americans.

My goodness, it's a strange world, isn't it?

Mitt Romney's background, experience and trustworthiness show him to be a great leader and an excellent citizen for President of the United States.

You may think that Romney may not be the best representative the Republicans could have selected. At least I know what religion he is, and that he won't desecrate the US flag, bow down to foreign powers, or practice fiscal irresponsibility. I know he has the ability to turn this financial debacle that the current regime has gotten us into. We won't like all the things necessary to recover from this debt, but someone with Romney's background can do it.

On the minus side, he never was a "Community Organizer", never took drugs or smoked pot, never got drunk, did not associate with communists or terrorists, nor did he attend a church whose pastor called for God to damn the US.  [Oooops!]

My grandson is growning up

This little guy, our #5 grandson, will be 7 years old tomorrow. The time is flying by so fast. I remember the day I took this picture of him. It seems like it was only yesterday. Next week he goes off to his first day of school in grade 2.

He was named after his father but we all call him Jr. I wasn't particularly happy with it, but I'm only his maternal grandmother, so I didn't have a say.

He's a great kid. Of course I have to think that. It's a grandma's duty. :)

He has such a quick mind. The other day his mother told him money doesn't grow on trees and he said it does. Money is paper, paper comes from trees, so money came from trees. Now how could you argue with that logic?

He has a little brother who is 5. They are very close, but being boys, they fight almost every day. Now that they are starting school, they've recently decided they have their own friends, not sharing them, and they each want to go separate ways. They don't even want to ride the same bus to school. However, that is not an option.

It's hard for Grandma to watch them change. I wish I still had the little ones to hug and hold. They won't do that anymore, of course. I do get a hug when they leave, but that's about all.

But they are healthy and happy... have a steady home life with a mother and a father... so they'll grow up to be good young men. With God's blessing.
