Wed.'s activities

Every other day...
seems to be my pattern lately. My life is so tranquil, I have to live 2 days before I have enough 'stuff' to write about in a blog.

Yesterday...
my plan of action included "floors". I swept and steam cleaned the kitchen and bathroom floors. Plus I had to do a load of laundry. By the time I was finished with supper and the dishes last night, I was too tired to even remember my own name.

The weather today in Ohio:

Sunny. It was fairly nice. The temperature wasn't too bad, just nippy. I think it got up around 34°. That's what it said in front of the bank when we went up through town.

Tomorrow, the temperature is going to go up a bit more, so the forecast is for rain.Which means, with the snow melting, the added rain, and you have a formula for a flooded roads and my backyard again.

Oh, what fun!

After Hubby and I got around this morning, taking our time, no rush of course, we made a trip out to our favorite shopping mart. We picked up the few things we needed and came straight back home. I always watch the weather channel in the morning while I eat breakfast, and hearing our forecast for the next 2 days, we decided we had better take care of this chore while it was still nice out.

Tonight's supper:

beef and vegetable soup, using anything I have in the freezer, mixed in a bean pot and slow cooked in the oven. Bob prefers I fix it this way and not in a crock pot. He likes the flavor better. It was good.

Wind farm...
we have a large one just north of town that extends all the over to the Indiana state line. When we go out that way to WalMart, we can see the tops. Today most of them were turned off. It's that way a lot. Now, in today's paper, they want to build another one to the east of town. We're going to be surrounded by them. Our tax dollars at work. Whoever is benefiting from them, it's not us.

Goodnight:
I'm going to watch the rest of CSI then go to bed. I hope you have a good day tomorrow.

A new word...

The new word for today:
I came across this word today, and as I usually do, I consulted good ol' Webster to find the meaning.
Creche (also spelled cresch) may refer to 1) a day care center, an organization of adults who take care of children in place of their parents; 2) a nativity scene, a group of figures arranged to represent the birth of Jesus Christ; and 3) in zoology it refers to animals taking care of young that are not their own.
How about that?

Winter continues in Ohio:
We are currently under another winter storm advisory. Snowy conditions to continue until late tonight with another 2-3 inches of snow expected. The wind chill is only 18° which I watch more than the actual temperature. That's what affects the body and freezes the skin.

As the snow falls:
The snow had tapered off so Hubby thought he'd at least get the back patio cleaned off to try to keep ahead of it. I stepped out to 'watch' and get this shot for my friends in the south.

He doesn't want to start up the snowblower and do the driveway and front walks yet, not until the snow stops, but you can see the depth of what we've gotten so far. Don't ya just love it? Not me.
Then someone on FB posted she had heard some report of a possible blizzard. Oh, no! I hope it was a joke.

The hostage is safe:
The little boy that's been held in the underground bunker in Alabama has been released and is ok.  Thank God. The FBI is still not saying much on how the man died.

11:00 PM.... Bedtime.
I hope you had a good day. Take care.
God bless.

Feb. 3.. the Day the Music Died

Today's National Recognition: The Day the Music Died
Feb. 3, 1959 was the day Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and Big Bopper died in a plane crash in a corn field in Clear Lake, Iowa. I was just reading the complete story of what happened (again) and there was a whole sequence of events that lead up to the crash. But I can remember his music very well. His records were the first ones I bought myself when I was growing up.

Our HD cable box:
The Time Warner repairman was here this afternoon, as scheduled, and got our box working again. He was explaining a lot of technical stuff to Bob, which I'm not sure he understood, but he told Bob what went wrong with the box. Bob told him about his conversation with the phone tech yesterday and what that man told Bob to do. This guy said he's the one that totally screwed up the codes in the box. But we're ok now and Hubby is happy.

Today's weather report:
We had cloudy skies most of the day. The sun did peak out briefly off and on, but not enough to give us any warmth. The snow did start melting in a few areas. It seems the roads are all fairly safe. Today's high was only 17° with 20-30 mph wind gusts, making the wind chill around 5°. Tomorrow is suppose to be more of the same.

Golden Girls:
Today on the Hallmark channel is a marathon of Golden Girls. I love that show. Now matter how many times I've seen each show, they can still make me laugh.

Today's celebrity birthday:
Norman Rockwell was born on Feb. 3, 1894.
He's quoted as saying:  "The secret to so many artists living so long is that every painting is a new adventure. So, you see, they're always looking ahead to something new and exciting. The secret is not to look back."

A Sweet Treat:
I got hungry for something sweet this afternoon, so I scrounged through the cupboard in search of ideas and ingredients. I ended up making some small blueberry muffins.
Then for supper we had pizza from Pizza Hut.

Daughter #2:
Lori called this afternoon. She's our daughter that lives in Michigan. I haven't seen them since Christmas Eve. It was nice talking to her. I miss them.

Super Bowl:
I guess the game isn't going very well. Bob's watching it in the other room and he said if the 3rd quarter isn't any better, he's changing the station. He didn't like the half-time show, the commercials are stupid and the power went out so they have a long delay. Oh, well.

I hope you had a good day.
God bless.

Snowy Saturday

Today's weather in Ohio:
We got some snow today. So far this winter, we've had it mild, sort of. I think this is only about the 3rd measurable snow fall we've had. We got around 1½" today. Not enough to get out the snow blower, but enough to shovel out of the way. And the temperature got up to 23°.

Tonight's dinner:

I fixed my hubby's favorite meal. We had a skillet fried sirloin that melted in the mouth, plus mashed potatoes, tomatoes and brussel sprouts. He was happy.

Super Bowl Sunday:
Tomorrow is the big game day for football fans. Since OSU isn't playing this year, I haven't taken much of an interest in who made it this year. I had to ask Bob last night. He may watch the game tomorrow. If so, I might peek in now and then.

Punxsutawney Phil:

I guess the little rodent didn't see his shadow today, so he stayed outside to play awhile and enjoy the festivities. I can't believe all the hoopla over this. But it is good to hear we're going to have an early spring. If you believe.

The stand-off continues:
The news has gotten quiet today about the stand-off in Alabama. I had to check to see if it was over yet. The man took a 5-yr. old boy off the school bus last Tuesday, after shooting the bus driver who was trying to protect the 21 students he had on board. The man is still holding the boy hostage in his self-built underground bunker. They have managed to get the boy's meds down to him, but it doesn't sound like they're making any progress in getting him to come out. I have an ill feeling about an ending.
I have a grandson that age and I can't imagine how the mother is feeling. It's a horrible situation. I feel so bad for them. Praying this man comes out and releases the little guy real soon.

Broken HD cable box:

Hubby was not at all happy this morning when he found that his HD cable box wasn't working. He tried everything to get it to work right, but to no avail. So he called the cable company, Time Warner. He managed to get through their computer menu and finally got a human to talk to. The technician had him doing all sorts of things, but nothing worked. That's when Hubby's patience was wearing thin. It ended up by scheduling a service call for tomorrow afternoon. On a Sunday! I wonder what that's going to cost us. Bob said he's not paying a service fee because we've only had the box 4 months and if they don't take care of this to his satisfaction, we're going to go with DirectTV. Stay tuned for the rest of the story.

This concludes my rambling for the day. I hope you're having a good weekend.
Stay safe and warm.

THE END

National Library Lovers Month

Happy February, everyone.......
It's another new month already. January just flew by and left me no pleasant memories. I hope this month is better.

February is National Library Lovers Month
I love books, therefore I love libraries. This is my favorite place in town.... our library. I can get lost in there for hours with all the books, the research materials and the complete genealogy department we have is fantastic. There's only one thing that would make my visits perfect.... if they served me a cup of coffee.

Today's weather in Ohio:

We have been under a wind chill advisory since last evening. When I got up this morning, the wind chill was a minus 11° and the temperature was only 7°. The clouds broke up and we got a lot of sunshine this afternoon, but it didn't do much in warming things up.

My boss, the Realtor:
Daryl just transferred his real estate license to a different broker. Now I have to deal with an office and men I don't care for. He didn't want to have to do this, but he had no choice (long story). He had been fretting over this for several months, then he told me a couple weeks ago that he'd made his choice of brokers. I just hope things work out for him, but I have a feeling this broker will be taking Daryl's work away from me and having his office staff do the work. Daryl has tried to reassure me that he will still need me, but I'm not sure. Time will tell.

Dinner Out:
I was just getting ready to start cooking dinner when Hubby got a call from his #2 brother. "How about getting together for supper?" I gladly put the pots and pans away, and we met him and his wife at Orchard Tree, our favorite restaurant. We had a good time with them. We hadn't seen much of them lately. She's been sick. But the coldest day of the year and she wanted to get out of the house.

A new book:
I started reading a new book last night called "The Unseen" by Luke Alistar. It's not my traditional kind of book, but it was a 'freebie' (Kindle version) and the reviews caught my interest. I read several chapters about a young girl in the mid-1800's that was dropped off by her parents at an insane asylum. So sad. But I want to continue with it to see what happens to her.
I've gotten several interesting books from Amazon's daily deals..... free! They're all usually by unknown writers, but most have been very good. If a writer doesn't have a good style, shows real talent, I don't waste my time. There's so many other books I can read instead.

Well, I think I'll close this and head over to Facebook to see what my friends and family are up to. Hope you had a good day. Thanks for stopping by.
Take care.
God bless.

Thursday thoughts

Hubby and I didn't do anything today. Well, let me re-phrase that.... Hubby didn't do anything today. I did my household chores, including 2 loads of laundry.

Thank goodness we went out yesterday to get groceries because
today was not the kind of day to be out running around. It's cold.

This afternoon it managed to get up around 23° but with the winds
blowing like they have, the wind chill was around zero all day.
Right now it's at minus 3 with 42mph winds. Bitter cold.

It was hard to get up this morning. I didn't feel like getting out of bed. My head is bothering me, not a headache, just that heavy feeling I get occasionally, like when the weather makes a big change. It also zaps any energy I may have had.

I haven't felt like working on my genealogy the last few days. Therefore, all my papers are right here where I left them. I'm going to try to get back into it tomorrow. I'm trying to get everything into a new filing system, so I have to get back or I'll forget where I was.

I've been having some computer problems lately, so I worked on it quite a while this evening, deleting some old files and cleaning up the registry. I'm hoping I'll be able to publish this.

I saw this on a web page last night and I thought it was very interesting. I plan to do some research to see if this is true or not.

How many times I have looked at those stickers on my food and never thought about what those numbers mean.

The next time I go to the store I'm going to check it out. And I will no doubt make some wiser decisions on what I buy.

When we were at the store yesterday, I wanted a tomato for a recipe I was making for supper last night. Just one tomato. Every kind I picked up said "a product of Mexico". We won't buy any of them, because it's a proven fact they use human feces to fertilize the vegetables they grow and ship to us. I finally found some grape tomatoes grown in Arkansas. I just had to alter my recipe a bit.

Tomorrow (Feb. 1) is National Wear Red Day the American Heart Assoc. started 10 years ago for the awareness of
heart disease in women. I'm not getting out and join in any local activities, but I thought I'd just mention it.

Well, I'm going to finish watching the local news and then head off to bed.

Hope you have a good day tomorrow.

Take care.
God bless.

Monday blues

Instead of the Monday blues, I should say "Monday grays". It's been a nasty day, all gray and dark. One of those winter days where you need lights on in the house all day. The temperature has been going up which brings the rain, and now fog. It's so bad I can only see the neighbor's front lights across the street, but not their house. I hope anyone that's out on the highway is extra careful.

I didn't do much again today. I had a hair appointment this afternoon, then I came straight back home. I have to go to the store, but maybe tomorrow. I'm meeting my sister for coffee when she gets off work tomorrow. I'm looking forward to that. I don't see her much, maybe once a month. She's such a busy lady. But we always have a great time catching up.

Our grand-daughter got sick a couple days ago and wasn't getting any better. Our daughter, who lives in Michigan, just over the state line, drove down and took Hollie to Urgent Care. They told her that she had the flu. It seems each year, when the flu hits, it's always a new strain, affecting people in ways they've never had before. The virus mutates each year. It's awful. Our daughter didn't think it was the flu because of the pain Hollie had. But I talked to her this afternoon and she's feeling much better today.

Our county courthouse has been going through some major renovations inside. Workers have been opening the dome ceiling over the court room. It was covered with a drop-ceiling several years ago. Several months ago they decided to open it up and have it repaired. It was a slow, pains-taking job, but the firm doing the work has done fantastic work.

The dome ceiling is just under the clock tower.

An 8 ft. statue of Lady Justice is over the front doors.

The courthouse was built in 1876, designed by an architect in Indiana, one of kind.  In 1974, our County Courthouse was listed in the National Register of Historic Places, because of its unique design and put our little town on the map.

Well, I'm off to bed now.
Hope you have a great day tomorrow.
