The last day of November!! It's amazing how fast this year has gone. I often wonder.... what did I miss while my days were flying by?
Our weather today was suppose to be warm and sunny. The temperature is around 51° but the sun has only peaked out a few times.
My last couple days have been very busy, but very productive. Wednesday I spent the whole day cleaning. I steam cleaned the kitchen, among other things. After all the cleaning was done, we freshened up and went out for supper.
Yesterday Hubby helped me clean my office and move things around. When I get the chance to put him to work, he REALLY works! The room is divided according to the work I do.... my boss' files, papers and disks are on one side of the room, while my personal files and things are on the other side. He sometimes comes in to work with me or get some paperwork I typed up for him, so I have a chair and table by his files where we can work. But yesterday Hubby helped me move furniture where I finally got my printer/scanner up on a stand where I don't have to get on my knees to get to it. Things feel more comfortable now, knowing everything is organized and clean.
Our #2 grandson just left. He's 18 and is getting ready to go to Ohio State U. He wanted to update us on how that's been going. Classes start Jan. 7th, but right now he's in the process of getting info on his dorm and orientation week. Our 'baby' is going to college and be on his own. Talk about time flying!!! One good thing... he's only going to be 2 hours away. He's given his boss 2 week notice on quitting his job so he has time to prepare to leave plus enjoy the coming holidays.
He also came down to have Grandpa sharpen his straight razor. It tickled us when he said he wanted one. So Grandpa got him a nice one. I didn't think there was any man younger than 50 who used those anymore. He likes it. Bob put a good edge on it today, then worked with him again on how to do it himself. Bob also gave him a sharpening stone to keep in his kit.
I've worked several hours the last couple days on the genealogy project I'm putting together for another one of our grandson's. Since joining Ancestry, I've found so much information. I found one of Bob's relatives he didn't know anything about. All we had was a picture of him with his cavalry unit and their horses, and only a partial name (nickname and last name). I got so excited. It took several hours to piece together, but well worth it.
Today's devotional:
“What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind
has conceived”— the things God has prepared for those who love him — 1 Corinthians 2:9
Wishing you a great day and a wonderful weekend ahead.
God bless.

Wed. Nov. 28, 2012
It's hard to imagine but we are fast approaching the end of November already. The next few weeks are going to be busy ones.
Our weather has been cold lately, colder than our normal, but nothing too bad. At least the sun's shining. It's been in the 30's during the day and in the 20's at night. The weekend is suppose to be warmer, in the high 50's. I'll take it.
My plans for today is steam cleaning the kitchen floor and vacuuming the living room. Then I hope to work so more on my new project. One of my grandsons is interested in his ancestors that fought in any of the wars. So, I've been putting together some print-outs to put in a folder for him. Each page contains the man's name, picture and how he's related. On some I've included some history of that war, dates, etc. and some pictures I've gotten from the internet. My husband was in the Army during Vietnam and when we found out that most of the kids today are not being taught anything about that 'conflict', it's upset him. There are so many people against our involvement and refuse to acknowledge it even happened. We lost so many boys during that time, we have to remember them too. It can't be forgotten. I'm hoping my grandson will enjoy having this, something he'll want to keep.
This project has been a big undertaking, more than I thought it would, but it's been fun. While I have a lot of information on my side of the family, Bob needed to help me with his relatives. Doing that, he got out his boxes of photos that we haven't gotten into albums yet, to find his family members that fought for our country. In the process, I've researched their history, which lead to more information on them and their family. I've gotten side-tracked several times, finding more names and connections for my genealogy notebooks. It was exciting for me to find one of his lost relatives he didn't even know about. I hated to pay the membership fee, but I'm on ancestry.com where I find so much information. I'm hoping it will be worth it.
The devotional for today: "When the Lord finished speaking to Moses on Mount Sinai, he gave him the two tablets of the covenant law, the tablets of stone inscribed by the finger of God." – Exodus 31:18 (NIV)
Commentary: The God of the universe had no problem in binding Himself to humanity with a written contract. We equate freedom with the ability to have options, but God equates freedom with His unchanging promises. He took this one step further when His promises became flesh and lived among us in Jesus Christ. As the biblical story unfolds we find that true freedom occurs when the promises of God go from stone to flesh—from external obligations to heartfelt obedience.
Well, enough rambling. Time is flying. I better get up and get moving.
Wishing everyone a great day.
God bless.

One holiday down
One holiday down and now on to the next. We had a very nice Thanksgiving Day with all the family. Everyone was here... our daughter Lisa with her husband and 2 sons, daughter Lori with her husband and 2 kids (one daughter and one son), daughter Teresa with her husband and 3 sons. Then we had our son-in-law's older boy with his wife and baby. And as a special treat we had my brother from Texas with his 2 grandchildren. Then Bob and I made 21. With a little help from my girls, I managed the complete spread of lots of delicious food. By 9:00 pm I realized that my nerves were still fairly calm and my sanity was still in tacked.
The other day I mentioned on here that I was making my mother's bread pudding and I had a dear friend request the recipe. I typed it out and put it on my "Recipe" page if you'd care to take a look. The only request I have is if you make it, I'd like to hear from you.
I was making the bread pudding as a surprise for my brother. He hasn't had any for years. He was surprised and very pleased. He took a few pieces to go.
I didn't manage to get any pictures of our bunch because I was too busy. After about 4 hours +/- on my feet, my girls finally ordered me to sit down. Then they did up the dishes. I didn't argue.
Some people have been sharing about their favorite holiday movies they're watching this long weekend, so here's mine:
Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed. I love this film. I always watch it this time of year. Sometimes I don't need my DVD because if I'm observant I can catch one of the cable channels showing it. This movie was released the same year I was born... 1946. Wow it is an oldie!
Our weather on Thanksgiving Day was very nice. It got up around 60° with sunshine. The little boys were able to out and play in the backyard to run off some of their over abundance of energy. But then yesterday and today it's turned cold, approximately 30-34 degrees with that ugly gray cloud cover where we've had to turn on the lights to read. We've even seen some snow flakes falling. Nothing sticking around though. I do think that winter is settling in and the heavy coats are out.
Wishing you a great weekend.
Take care. God bless.

The Night before Thanksgiving
Twas the night before Thanksgiving and all through the house.... is the wonderful fragrance of baking. I have my pumpkin pie ready and I just took my bread pudding out of the oven. This has been a family tradition for many many years. It's my mother's recipe and the holidays was the only time she baked it. After she passed away it fell to my responsibility. I hadn't planned on making it Thanksgiving. I usually do it for Christmas Eve dinner. But with my brother here from TX, I know he'll love having some. It's probably been years since he's had any.
We're doing a pot luck tomorrow. My daughters are all bringing side dishes, salads and desserts. I'm trying to make this as easy on myself as I can.
Friday isn't going to be such a good day. I just heard this morning that my boss' mother died. He didn't tell me. I had to read it in the paper, but that's just like him -- his way of coping. He very seldom talks about his personal life. Some men are like that. I've known his mother for years. She was a super sweet lady.
Our weather tomorrow is suppose to be really nice.... in the 60's and lots of sunshine. I'm hoping. Our boys can play outside. We're expecting 21 people so getting some of those energetic little boys outside to run off their dinner will be nice. :)
I hope you have a good Thanksgiving Day.
God bless.

TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE THANKSGIVING...
Twas the night before Thanksgiving and in my sleep.
Strange dreams in my mind, began to creep
Thanksgiving leftovers beckoned --- The dark meat and white,
But I fought the temptation with all of my might.
Tossing and turning with anticipation......
The thought of a snack became infatuation.....
So to the kitchen I did race, Flung open the door,
And gazed at the fridge full of goodies galore
I gobbled up turkey and buttered potatoes,
Pickles and carrots, beans and tomatoes.
I felt myself swelling so plump and so round,
Till all of a sudden, I rose off the ground!
I crashed through the ceiling. Floating into the sky....
With a mouth full of pudding and a handful of pie,
But I managed to yell as I soared past the trees.
HAPPY EATING TO ALL!
PASS THE CRANBERRIES PLEASE!

Thanksgiving guests
We had another beautiful day. The sun was shining and the temperature got up around 50°. Not too bad when it warmed up for the overnight temp of only 30.
My "little" brother got into town last evening. He and his family live in TX and they always try to come to Ohio once a year. This year they decided to come over Thanksgiving week. It's always good to see them. Her parents live about 30 miles north of us, so when they come up they usually stay with her parents and he spends time with us. This evening they all came here, including their 2 grandchildren, and we went out to supper. It was a great time. I love those kids. They're so much fun.
I feel like I'm coming down with a cold. I sure hope not because I have a busy week ahead of me. I'm taking my Vitamin C and getting lots of rest, when I can. Right now I'm sitting here starting to shiver, not from the temperature of the room, so I'm going to bed.
Hope you had a great day.
God bless.

Party Day
We all had a very busy day today, but a good one. Our youngest grandson turned 6 today and our daughter had a big party for him. We had a beautiful day for it. All those little boys, with all that energy, could play out in the backyard.
Bryan invited some of his friends from school but it was mostly family. The party had a football theme and his "other" grandma found this big football pinata.
The kids were using a baseball bat, trying to break it. Finally my 10 yr. old grandson Ian, on the right in yellow, took his turn. He plays baseball and has quite a strong swing. When he hit the pinata all the candy inside came flying at me. I was surprised, but the next several minutes I helped the kids by getting the candy that flew behind me into the bushes. My daughter, Bryan's mother, is on the far right in the Ohio State shirt.
Then everyone had cake and ice cream. This Grandma supplied the cake this time... half white, half chocolate. I was very pleased with the lady I got it from. She did a great job on it and it tasted good, not that sickening sweet like so many others. Of course Bryan couldn't wait to get the football off the cake. He turned it upside down and used it as as potato chip bowl. He's quite a little guy.
Then it came time to open his gifts. He got a few toys, but mainly clothes for school. He's growing out of everything he has. I never did figure out the helmet turned backwards on his head. LOL
After the party started breaking up, and his friends went home, it was supper time. So they ordered several large pizzas. I ate 2 very small pieces and it didn't agree with me. So I'm going to go to bed here in a few minutes.
Wishing everyone a good Sunday. God bless. ♥

Happy Birthday Baby
Thirty-eight years ago today I remember exactly what I was doing and where I was. I was in the Maternity Ward of our local hospital. She weighed 7 lbs. 4 oz. and her name is Teresa. She's one of my pride and joys.
Today was a good day. Nothing exciting but still good. The sun was shining and the temperature was around 43°. I took care of a few things around the house, then Bob and I went to WalMart to get some things. We picked up a few items for our Thanksgiving dinner next week. The rest I'll get later so I know they're fresh.
We saw my sister at the store and talked to her for a few minutes. She'd just gotten off work and she looked so tired. I worry about her. Her job is taking so much out of her. I don't know how much longer she's going to be able to keep this up. The job is taking it's toll on her physically.
After Bob and I checked out with our groceries, we brought them home, put things away then we went out for supper. We have a nice family restaurant up on Main St. that we like to go to. They have the best fried chicken, a salad/soup and hot bar. And home-made pies. It was dark when we left there, so we came into the house, turned on the TV and here we sit.
Today I am thankful for my little house. We lived in the country for several years, a half-hour drive just to buy a gallon of milk, and now that we live in town, I love being close to all our shopping. Our little house might not be very pretty, but inside it's warm and comfortable. Where anyone is welcome. Our children and grandchildren love to come here for get-togethers, where we always have a good time. And usually lots of food to go with it. In the summer we have backyard cookouts and in the cold weather, we play games on the kitchen table where we always get to laughing. My little 3-bedroom bungalow on a tree-lined street in a small town is where I live and that is a blessing I'm so thankful for.
Take care.
God bless.
